Mobility Worldwide
Originally called the PET Project (for Personal Energy Transportation), this mission is now known as Mobility Worldwide. In 1994 after seeing the tragic loss of limbs due to landmines in Zaire and polio in many nations, Missouri United Methodist pastor Mel West and missionary Larry Hiils with the help of product designer Earl Miner designed the cart in Columbia, MO. The cart, propelled by the arms of the driver, is designed to be used in some of the world’s most remote regions. This cart lifts persons who have only crawled or dragged themselves on the ground up onto a seat and gives them dignity and even the possibility of earning a living by using the cart to transport goods. Support for Mobility Worldwide has now changed over 36,000 lives since 1994. CrossRoads has been a supporter of this ministry for several decades. Joe and Betty Rogers of CrossRoads were involved with this organization right up to their recent deaths. Joe made many of the wooden parts that were then shipped to Columbia where the carts are built. Our Vacation Bible School children often support the project with their dimes and quarters as well. If you want to know more about this mission, you can go to www.GiftofMobility.org. You can donate through CrossRoads via a check which is designated “Mobility” on the memo line or via our online giving page. |
